LAHORE: A case has been registered against two constables including a driver of the Punjab Police MT Department and a staffer of Civil Defence for harassing and demanding ransom from the parents of two girls, who were arrested from a local hotel a couple of days ago along with two boys.
The accused police officials made a plot after capturing two students of Gulberg College for Women along with their alleged “paramours” from Ever-Green Hotel, located in Shadman Police area on Monday.
A case number 179/12 has been registered under Section 170/171/384 of PPC and 156 of Police Order 2002 by Shadman Police on the complaint of paternal uncle of girls, Mian Ishaq, after DIG Major (retd) Mubasharullah completed an initial inquiry into the matter on the orders of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
The DIG also suspended the Moharrar of Shadman Police Station, Mehboob, for his negligence and involvement in the entire episode. Mubasharullah told this correspondent that the Punjab chief minister, after coming to know about the issue through the local media, asked him to probe the matter in detail.
He said two girls namely (R) and (A) were cousins. (R) was a resident of Nishtar Colony Lahore whereas (A) belonged to Sharaqpur area. He said (A) had come to Lahore to meet her relatives and on the day of incident, she came along with (R) to the college. According to the DIG, (A) had an affair with one Yasir, a resident of Sharaqpur. He said (A) and Yasir decided to meet and got (R) involved in the matter as well. He said Yasir, along with his friend, reached Lahore and they all met at Lawrence Gardens. After spending a few hours in the park, they went to Ever-Green Hotel where they rented two rooms for Rs 1200, each. In the meantime, a reporter of a local news channel radioed information at 15 stating that two girls and two boys were merrymaking in a hotel. He said SHO Shadman conducted a raid at the hotel on reporter’s information and arrested (R), (A), Yasir and his friend. The cops brought them to Shadman Police Station where two constables namely Ishaq (belt number 19008), MT Police’s driver Ghaffar and a staffer of Civil Defence namely Shahzad started teasing and threatening the arrested girls and their “paramours”.
The aforesaid men also misguided the parents of two girls in order to get their palms greased. Meanwhile, Ghaffar and Shahzad took Yasir’s ATM card and withdrew Rs 15,000 from his account. The DIG further said one of them also telephoned families of girls and told them that the girls had been kidnapped.
